This Equine Showjumping family photoshoot was commissioned as a Surprise gift for the childrens parents and grandparents. I wish I’d videoed this shoot as we had such fun photographing it. We used Tipperary Equestrian Centres Showjumping Indoor arena and I used my Studio lit ‘Signature Lighting’ emphasising the beautiful confirmation of their ponies and the gorgeous children. The children adore their ponies and were so excited during the shoot that I was capturing them with their life long friends.

Equine portrait of Showjumping horse ‘Mrs Quinn’ | Ireland Professional Horse photographer
March 26, 2014
Mrs Quinn
13 yo b m
Sire: Laughton’s Flight
Dam: Kyle flower
Owner: Caledonia Stables
Breeder: John Doyle
“Mrs Quinn is a typical Irish horse with a huge heart and a real fighter in the ring. She has a quirky personality and she’s not a lover of the farrier or the clipping machine, but we get around her. She was bought in Cavan sales as a five-year- old and campaigned in Canada under Alan Kruger before returning to Ireland as an 11 year-old. It took a while to get to know each other but we have formed a very good partnership.
She is a full sister to International showjumping mare Shannondale, so its exiting to see what her foals will be like.
“Since competing at Grand Prix level in Ireland she has clocked up numerous wins”

This was an equine commission from Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show of sisters Charolette and Sarah Jane with their beautiful horses at their home. The girls were fantastic to work with. We had glorious evening light. When I arrived the girls were wearing beautiful blue dresses, the opposite in the colour wheel to brown is blue. It was a great fun session for me and we even took a few family photos with the girls parents & brother as well.
The girls Mum helped behind the scenes at the session. You can imagine how much work goes into cleaning tack, clipping and washing horses for a photo session:)
I used my signature studio lighting to enhance the conformation of the horses
FREE Engagement Portrait when you book your wedding
December 26, 2013
To mark this couples recent engagement I wanted to create a unique portrait that the couple would treasure forever. They both come from Dairy Farms and I originally thought lets take the portrait on the farm with cows, however the Groom rightly pointed out that “calves were the future on any farm”. I wanted a casual relaxed fun image.
I presented it to the couple in a large cream mount – A signature board so all their guests could sign.

Horse photographer Ireland- Showjumping photos in Newtownards Northern Ireland
October 23, 2013
It was a beautiful day in Newtownards Northern Ireland when I photographed this showjumper and her horse. The area around her home was very picturesque with lovely old trees in the paddock.
When I arrive at a shoot, before I ever start taking photos I not only have to introduce myself to the people involved but also the horse. That time is the key to relaxed portraits. I then walk around the areas and study the light and decide both the angles and composition.
I really enjoyed balancing the studio lights with the available lights in the full lenght photo. The air was so pure the bark of the old tress was covered in lichen, I very subtly rake lit the bark, with out this the bark would have gone dark and their true beauty would have been lost.
Nikki’s inner beauty radiates from her and was very easy to capture. Her parents were fantastic assistants on the shoot and made the morning so relaxed and hospitable. When I look back on the Summer of 2013 this morning will hold a special place
Equine Portrait – “Conversation” – Larry & Liz
September 11, 2012
Really enjoyed an amazing equine portrait shoot at this beautiful Show jumpers home. This beautiful pony Larry & show jumper Liz had an amazing relationship & her parents had commissioned me to capture that special bond. I wanted to capture that quiet syncing that happens within your soul as you bond with your pony. Their eyes say it all. A special moment of mutual love
Equine Shoot by the sea – ponies on the beech
February 2, 2012
This recent Equine Family portraits in Rush Co. Dublin was great fun. I arrived to perfect light with three delightful children and their beautiful ponies. As we drove to Rush Beach I saw the perfect light, they say the best landscape light is after rain and high wind all the dust particles are surpressed and the light is brilliant and clear. Getting this shot involved a few takes but cantering up the beach was a pure joy to the children and can be seen in the portrait.
They often say the portrait is behind you – (When you focus on the location in front, look behind you, the shot is often their not where you are looking). The children had to trot down to the beech to get to the location I was focused on the beautiful blue sky in front of me with Lambay Island. The light in this portrait reminded me instantly of Japanese Landscape 14th century, monochrome Art – with delicate interplay between light and mist,
As I drove into the stables, the beautiful listed building with its layers of colour and beautiful architecture caught my eye. The minute I saw the Dune & grey ponies I felt the background with compliment and echo in the portrait. The Grandads vintage tack box added to the portrait.
