Equine portrait of Showjumping horse ‘Mrs Quinn’ | Ireland Professional Horse photographer

Equine portrait Mrs Quinn Greg Broderick Caladonia stables

This commissioned professional Equine portrait of Top Showjumping Horse and prolific winner, “Mrs Quinn” who partnered Ireland’s top International show jumping rider, Greg Broderick of Ballypatrick Stables to many of his National wins.
Mrs Quinn was a fantastic mare to photograph. She adores Gregs sister Cheryl and was a supermodel for us during the photoshoot. I used my signature studio lighting set up as it really highlights her gorgeous compact confirmation.

“Mrs Quinn is a typical Irish horse with a huge heart and a real fighter in the ring. She has a quirky personality and she’s not a lover of the farrier or the clipping machine, but we get around her. She was bought in Cavan sales as a five-year- old and campaigned in Canada under Alan Kruger before returning to Ireland as an 11 year-old. It took a while to get to know each other but we have formed a very good partnership.
She is a full sister to International showjumping mare Shannondale, so its exiting to see what her foals will be like.
“Since competing at Grand Prix level in Ireland she has clocked up numerous wins”

This recent Equine Family portraits in Rush Co. Dublin was great fun. I arrived to perfect light with three delightful children and their beautiful ponies. As we drove to Rush Beach I saw the perfect light, they say the best landscape light is after rain and high wind all the dust particles are surpressed and the light is brilliant and clear. Getting this shot involved a few takes but cantering up the beach was a pure joy to the children and can be seen in the portrait.

They often say the portrait is behind you – (When you focus on the location in front, look behind you, the shot is often their not where you are looking). The children had to trot down to the beech to get to the location I was focused on  the beautiful blue sky in front of me with Lambay Island. The light in this portrait reminded me instantly of Japanese Landscape 14th century, monochrome Art – with delicate interplay between light and mist,

As I drove into the stables, the beautiful listed building with its layers of colour and beautiful architecture caught my eye. The minute I saw the Dune & grey ponies I felt the background with compliment and echo in the portrait. The Grandads vintage tack box added to the portrait.
